Beginner’s Guide to Blogging About Your Child (or Anything Else)
29 February 2008
He he.
A good friend of mine once asked me how to create a blog and eventually, blogging about her kids. I kept procrastinating (well, that’s me) in putting up a post on that for her. Well now that I’m quite free and RAJIN, my dear friend, you know who you are, this one is for you.
Lets start with the most essential. You will need to have:
No. 1
A PC. I use a laptop, since new laptops are built-in with many, many useful jacks and slots which later is very important in putting a ‘flair’ in your precious’ blog. If you use a PC, make sure it has USB ports so later you can insert a card reader or Bluetooth dongle. Ooops, moving too fast? Sowwy.
No. 2
Internet connection. Dial-up/Broadband doesn’t matter. I used to blog with dial-up, but it needed a lot of patience. Lambat cam kekura by my standards.
No. 3
A blogging account. The are many free blog providers today, but the most popular are Blogger.com and WordPress.com. I have used both provider in the past. WordPress is great for it’s many pretty themes (remember, themes are just the dressing for your blog), while Blogger can store up to 1024MB of photos to display in your blog. WordPress can only store 50MB. Another WordPress’ advantage is that you can lock your posts with password, without locking your entire blog like Blogger. It’s your choice. Don’t forget to register to any of these providers and you’re good to go.
These are the optionals, where you will add photos and videos of your kids in your blog. You will need:

You can use a digital camera if you want. But for me it’s not practical carrying a digicam around all the time, like while in bed with your baby, during his bath time, on the way to the clinic or even in the mall. But a handphone goes wherever, right? Did you know some shops prohibit cameras inside their premises? This is where a handphone comes in handy. Just stand there like you’re making a call, but the fact is - you are snapping photos!!! By good quality cameraphone I mean it must have the means to transfer the photos and videos you’ve taken to your PC. So, it must have either Bluetooth or a memory card.

If your phone has Bluetooth, but doesn’t have memorycard, use a Bluetooth dongle. I use a dongle too, coz it’s very handy if you are uploading a single photo/video - since you don’t need to pry open the back cover of your phone, take out the memory card just to upload one photo. Use a dongle! It comes with a software to manage the file transfer.
Now that you know all the tools needed to create a blog, you can start blogging by doing the basics; writing!(or is it typing?). Blogger.com does guide you when you start an account with them, so don’t be afraid - just go with the flow and you’ll get the hang of it very soon. Remember, blogging should be fun and meant for you and your family’s memory - so it’s up to you what you wanna put in your blog!
If you’re stuck, you know where I live.
Happy blogging, my dear friend.
**I really sound like a teacher, don’t I? I miss teaching soooo much. Yea rite!!
Pantang Cuti Aje…
12 February 2008
My hubby extend cuti CNY dia sampai hari ni. So semalam kira burn sebab ‘jet lag’ tersangkut kat hi-way. Hari ni hubby ajak teman dia subsribe Celcom Broadband kat Celcom Branch TTDI. Kenapa nak subsribe lagi since dah ada streamyx? My hubby teringat kampung la tu… kat kampung hari tu tak de internet, mati kutu kami (that includes me, hubby and BIL).
By the time Ammar dah besar, tak tau la apa teknologi dia pakai.
Lepas tu pg Low Yatt cari 3G modem. Aku ingat murah, rupa2nya. Tapi Hubby beli jugak sebab da teringat kampung yg amat.
Can’t they make this modem any cuter?
Okay, lately I noticed that everybody except us, are calling Ammar by the third piece of his name: Wafiy. Nenek called him Wapi, which makes all the aunties like tak puas hati saying, “Ada ke Wapi?”. I also discovered that pronouncing “Wafiy” is easier than “Ammar”. By MIL’s Northern dialect, she would pronounce Ammar as Ammat which sounds like a totally different name, like his name is Ahmad or something.
I don’t mind whether it is Ammar or Wafiy or Izzuddin as long as people called him by his name. At home we just called him Adik, just to remind him that he has got a big brother up in the heaven.
**BTW, his name, Ammar Izzudin Wafiy means:
Ammar: Yang ramai zuriat, also a name of Sahabat
Izzudin: Kemuliaan agama
Wafiy: Setia
Kalau boleh nak bagi dia 5 piece name, tapi takut dah besar nanti nyusahkan dia je nak isi borang ke apa, borang daftar beranak JPN tu pun tatau muat ke tak.
